"AN OPEN LETTER FROM GREG THOMAS"

Onlooker forwarded me the url for "An Open Letter from Greg Thomas on the segasports site. In it, Thomas mentions "rumors" of "unintended physiological effects" from playing the game, but does not come right out and emphatically deny them. Notice the careful wording he uses: "This letter is to inform you that no credible evidence exists to support these allegations." Strange wording for someone trying to deny somehting, isn't it? Why wouldn't he just come right out and say "These allegations are untrue"? Plain and simple. I would think the latter statement would set more people's minds at ease, rather than saying "no credible evidence exists" -- that sounds like something his lawyer told him to say, like as long as he pretends he didn't write those memos, and his actual signature isn't on them, he can dismiss them as not being "credible."

After that he says, "As with all Sega products, normal and responsible use of this game will not result in any physical harm.*" and the * at the bottom of the page is the standard epileptic seizures warning. Is he hoping this warning will cover his ass when people start having blackouts from this game?

Puzzlingly enough, toward the end he says "However, we also go to great lengths to make sure all of our games are thoroughly tested by a nationwide network of professional as well as amateur beta testers..." A nationwide network? But greg, I thought you said all testing is done at VC HQ! What's the deal?!?

It just infuriates me that this guy just continues to lie to th epublic and will not acknowlege the dangers of this game. Like i said though greg, this battle ain't over yet.

You are right, Onlooker. There is no way that letter was placed there by Beta-7, that's an official response for sure.

"Why wouldn't he just come right out and say "These allegations are untrue"?"

Woah... So you're saying that when a company says "no credible evidence" they are always hiding something? That means big Tobbaco has been lying to us for YEARS!

Oh wait... Sorry, bad sarcasm, bad sarcasm...

All it shows is that dillhole-7 is part of sega/vc

Posted by: at August 31, 2003 12:30 AM

Get over it. It's a goddamned stupid computer program. Nothing less, and definitely nothing more. This has about as much credibility as "blast processing" did in the Megadrive/Genesis days. They'll go as far as they can to get your $50. It's called "marketing". Duh.

I wouldn't be talking Bill.

Sega must really be desperate and intimidated by the competition to pull a stuntl ike this.
